WICA presents a new series of lectures by art historian Rebecca Albiani, an arts lecturer at the Frye Art Museum since 1997. To enhance our understanding of the arts, history, cultural values and social movements, Whidbey Island Center for the Arts has created an Arts Humanities Lecture Series.

To highlight the forthcoming exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum - VICTORIAN RADICALS:

The Pre-Raphaelites — March 30 William Morris — April 17 The Arts and Crafts movement — May 15

The Pre-Raphaelites Brotherhood emerged in Victorian England as a loose-knit band of artists, poets and designers in opposition to the Royal Academy’s promotion of the Renaissance master Raphael and the inhumanity of the Industrial Revolution. Founding members, William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, sought to reform the artistic establishment by defying conventions and bestowing realism and art with everyday life.

Rebecca Albiani has been an arts lecturer at the Frye Art Museum and in the Puget Sound area for the last two decades. She was Fulbright Scholar in Venice and graduated with honors in Art History from Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley. Her sell-out talks are as dynamic as they are informative. Audiences love her witty repartee and her ability to make art history come alive.
