Dave Kelbie has devoted his professional career to playing rhythm guitar. He has accompanied every big name guitarist in the Gypsy jazz world. He has toured worldwide and recorded with Fapy Lafertin, Angelo Debarre, Tcha Limberger, Mozes Rosenberg and Lollo Meier; and has appeared with Biréli Lagrène, Andreas Oberg, Garry Potter, and many others.

His band “The Dime Notes,” with U.S pianist Andrew Oliver, has set alight the vintage jazz scene in the UK; and through a recent project with New Orleanian clarinetist Evan Christopher and “Django a la Creole,” Kelbie has become one of the most sought after rhythm guitarists on the world stage. He tours regularly with ex-Soft Machine guitarist John Etheridge and is highly respected for his knowledge of ‘odd time signature’ central European rhythms from the Balkans. He has worked with “Kal” from Serbia, “The Original Kocani Orkestar” from Macedonia, and the multi-national cooperative “Szapora” from the UK

This interactive session with Dave Kelbie will cover a number of aspects of rhythm playing: right hand position, plectrum technique, chord progressions and substitutions, practice routines and warm-up techniques, and strumming technique differences between Gypsy swing and straight-ahead jazz.

Most will be in Swing time with a smattering of South American grooves, straight and odd time signatures.
