× The Pre-Raphaelites Brotherhood emerged in Victorian England as a loose-knit band of artists, poets and designers in opposition to the Royal Academy’s promotion of the Renaissance master Raphael and the inhumanity of the Industrial Revolution. Founding members, William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, sought to reform the artistic establishment by defying conventions and bestowing realism and art with everyday life.

× William Morris, born near London in 1834, was a multi-faceted artist. A designer and manufacturer of furniture, tapestries, stained glass, wallpaper, an author and a social activist, Morris developed close friendships with the Pre-Raphaelite artists Edward Burne-Jones and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Like his friends, he spent a lifetime fighting the consensus of the Victorian England artistic sensibilities.
